We had some really nice fall weather today for a change! So I took Mrs. Durrence's kindergarteners out to the garden. We planted Daffodils in front of the letter D in the Alphabet Garden! The kids were great! They had to dig a hole 4 inches deep, measure to make sure it was deep enough and then make sure they planted the bulb pointing in the right direction. Then we watered the bulbs in really well. Let me just say I was so proud of them for doing such an awesome job!

I love daffodils because when I see them blooming at the end of each winter, it's a sure sign that spring is coming! I can't wait to see them emerge here at FLE next Spring!

Wildlife Around Frank Long

Check out these pictures that were taken by our Outdoor trail camera! Who knew Frank Long had such an active wildlife so close by! Look closely at the pictures to see the dates the photos were taken and what time of day it was. As you can see the animals are really busy at night! Do you know the names of all these animals?

Picking Romaine Lettuce

Gosh, this week has been so busy that I almost forgot to talk about Mrs. Vaeth and Mrs. Turner's classes picking Romaine Lettuce this week! They have a slideshow on Mrs. Turner's blog so head over there and check them out!

Our Spider Has been at it again!

She's made ANOTHER egg sac!

The cauliflower is growing so fast! We are hoping to see some flowers soon!

Look at our beautiful Ga. Collards! These are ready to start picking leaves!

On Thursday of this week Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Wilson, and Ms. Bowling took their classes out to dig up our sweet potatoes. The 5th graders paired up with a kindergartener and they just had a blast digging up the potatoes! We had a pretty nice harvest this year! There were about a half of a wheel barrow full of them. Some were really nice sized and other were rather small. The next step will be to cook them after they dry out!

This week I am going to take advantage of our unseasonably warm weather and plant some seeds with the kindergarten. Each class will plant a row of something. Today I took out Mrs. Durrrence's class. They did an awesome job planting Snow Peas! They had to get a few weeds out of the way first. Then we lined up side by side and spaced the seeds out. Then they covered them with a little dirt and watered the seed. I think the part they liked best was watering! They each had a pail and they watered plants all over the garden! While we were outside, we fed the fish too. They were very hungry! We tried to find some more Monarch caterpillars but didn't find any today!

I couldn't resist taking a few pictures of the the raised beds. Our cauliflower and Ga. collards are growing so big and are some very beautiful plants! I am really happy with how well the fall garden is doing this year!

A Busy Day in the Garden!

I had planned to work in the garden with Mrs. McCall's class but when Mr. Graham's class came in today the first thing they wanted to know was if I would take them out to the Outdoor Classroom. They had noticed me taking the Kindergarten all last week and wanted THEIR turn! So we went out and I put them to work! I was so glad that Trent volunteered to put our scarecrow back up! It had fallen over during the last hard rain. The rest of the class (especially those sweet girls!) helped weed the garden. We are trying to stay ahead of those pesky things!

So first thing this morning I was hot and sweaty and ruined my hair-do! It's been very unseasonably hot this week and today was a scorcher!

Later on, I decided to take Mrs. Vaeth's 3rd graders too. Afterall, I wanted to finish the weeding and with this being a three day week for us, I didn't want to start any new projects. They did a fantastic job with the weeding and once again we all were hot and sweaty!

When it was finally time for Mrs. McCall's kids to come to lab, I was no longer concerned about getting filthy! We had a great time planting broccoli. It should be ready to harvest in about 50 days.
